Meet Shelby. Shelby has lost over 20lbs. since joining NIKA and changing her diet. She
has made amazing improvements with so much both inside the gym and outside of the gym. We
are so proud of her.
I asked my new friend and CrossFit NIKA Athlete to share with us what made her finally
give CrossFit and NIKA a try and here is what she had to say.
Ashley, I had a pretty big ‘Why not?” moment towards the end of 2017. I had been looking up
local CrossFit gyms to join, but up until that point had been too intimidated to talk to anyone
about it or visit one of the gyms. I wasn’t in the best shape and looked nothing like your
stereotypical “crossfitter”. I had found CrossFit NIKA through Instagram and saw a video that
Ashley posted that was her giving a tour around the box in the hopes that it would be less
intimidating to curious people. That was the sign I was looking for. Just the fact that they were
putting out things to make people more comfortable made me think that this was the gym and
the community for me. I just had to take the first step. So I said “Why not?” and signed up for the
From that moment on I was hooked. During the intro Ashley showed me around the gym,
talked to me about my goals, and invited me to come back and try a class. Two days later I was
back. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The workout was hard, but not impossible. The
coach was right there, helping and encouraging everyone. It wasn’t anything like I had expected
it would be. I took the next step that night and signed up for the jump start program. Now, almost
4 months later, I’m a NIKA regular.
If you would have asked me 4 or 5 months ago if I would be doing what I’m doing now I
would have thought you were crazy. Not only have I lost weight and gotten healthier, but I have
also gained a whole bunch of awesome friends and a positive and encouraging community of
athletes. The place that once felt so intimidating to me now feels like a home away from home
and I am so happy and proud to be #NIKAstrong.
