I know as a Mom of 4 boys that it is way easier to run through Checkers, get 8 cheeseburgers, just ketchup and call that dinner. I am busy! I get it more than anyone.
Bonus points for me from them, I bought them crap, dinner is done and no fighting to clean it up or to try that one bite.
However, what am I teaching them?
1. Instant satisfaction. Put it in my mouth and be happy. Who cares where it came from, whats in it and the endorphin rush from all those chemicals in it.
2. Mom’s are to busy to take the time to make you dinner. Everything else comes first and your need for a healthy dinner. Well, that can wait.
3. Where did we eat that dinner? Probably standing up in the kitchen. No sitting down at the dinner table to talk. To find out how each others day was. To build a relationship with your people.
4. They watch us eat and the sure do not see us eating that crap. Why should they get any less? Kids, you are below me.
Teaching kids about health and fitness is not easy, it takes time, repetition and sometimes a little “Mom voice” to get the job done.
But you can do it! Start with a family dinner. Ask them some questions.
What is your favorite thing to play on the playground?
What is your favorite meat?
Who is your best friend?
Let’s make our children just a little healthier each day.
